About the School
North Salem Elementary is located in the northwest section of the school district in the town of North Salem.
The enrollment area is rural, with the population being the least dense of the three elementary schools in the district. The enrollment area consists of the townships of Eel River and Union.
Regular classroom instruction is supplemented each day with a special subject area class. These classes are PE, Art, Music, Library, and Computer Lab.
North Salem Elementary has two licensed Special Education Teacher and support staff for Special Education.
North Salem Elementary serves students in grades PK-5 and the average class size at North Salem Elementary School is 20 students.
The staff in this building are united in their efforts and are dedicated to supporting students as they strive to reach lofty goals.
Our current corporation enrollment is just under 1900 students in grades K-12.
School Features
The North Salem Elementary School building has been remodeled and updated with construction completion in the spring of 2023.
This project increased safety protocols with a new office complex and clear sight entry vestibule. Our secure entry ensures all visitors are visibly identified prior to receiving access to the office complex. Within the office complex, all visitors must be approved through our Safe Visitors System before accessing the remaining areas of the school. The main section of the building, originally built in 1954, also received new windows throughout and many new exterior doors. Further safety improvements include a new parking lot to separate the bus traffic from the car traffic, widened lot entries, designated traffic flow patterns, and updated exterior lighting.
In addition to the increased security measures, the 1920 building was demolished and four new classrooms were added. The old office area was completely remodeled to create a large media center complete with new furniture and bookshelves. All areas of the school received new paint and carpet for an overall update.
