We have a free school-wide assembly and program made available to us this fall. The program is called Rachel's Challenge. Rachel was actually the first student killed in the Columbine tragedy. The idea behind the program is to create a chain reaction of kindness and compassion, thus impacting the entire culture of our school community. The program is working through the CIESC (Central Indiana Education Service Center) and they reached out to me last spring. It is several thousand dollars worth of material and programs, at no cost to the middle school. I thought it was definitely worth looking into.
They will be coming to the middle school for a school assembly on August 24. They follow up the full school assembly by meeting with 20-25 students on each grade level to serve as leaders to help drive the chain reaction of kindness and positive school culture. The "Chain Reaction" program takes place the following Monday, August 31. It is a full 6 hour day for these students. This is where I need help! The program does ask for adult volunteers to help lead a group of 4 students that day. It sounds like they give the adult facilitators/volunteers everything they need. These volunteers simply need to show up 30 minutes earlier than students and stay 15 minutes after the program ends. This means it is pretty much a full school day for these volunteers. I know this is a big ask, but I am in need of 15-20 people to help this day.
Please reach out to me with any questions at nickolir@hendricks.k12.in.us or call the school at 317-994-4200.
